Flower & Plant Care
Care instructions for your bouquet
Enjoy the beauty and fragrance of your hand-tied bouquet. We recommend following these simple steps to help keep your flowers looking fresh and beautiful for as long as possible.
- Prepare the Vase: Fill a clean vase or jug with fresh, lukewarm water. Clean vases help prevent bacterial growth, which can shorten the lifespan of your flowers.
- Unwrap with Care: Gently remove all decorative wrapping. The cellulose and eco sponge wraps we use, along with the bags, are biodegradable. The paper wrapping can be recycled. Please always try to reuse or recycle.
- Trim the Stems: Using a sharp knife or pair of scissors, cut each stem at an angle of least 3 cm. This fresh cut allows the stems to absorb water more efficiently and a diagonal cut increases the surface area for water absorption, helping your flowers stay hydrated and fresh.
- Arrange the Flowers: Place the freshly cut stems into the vase. You can choose to keep the bouquet tied with string (recommended for smaller bouquets) or release the tie to let the flowers spread naturally (recommended for larger bouquets). As the flowers mature and open more fully, they will require space to display all their beauty.
- Water Maintenance: Keep an eye on the water level, ensuring it remains consistent and generous. Fresh water is crucial for your flowers’ longevity, so top up the vase as needed and re-cut the stems each time you change the water, ideally every couple of days.
- Optimal Placement: To prolong their life, place your flowers in a cool location, away from direct heat, sunlight, or draughts. A cooler environment will help keep your flowers fresh and vibrant for a longer period. Avoid placing your arrangement near fruit, as ripening fruits release ethylene gas, which can cause flowers to age prematurely.
- Leaf and Petal Care: Remove any leaves or petals that fall below the water line, as they can introduce bacteria into the water. Also, regularly remove any wilted flowers to keep the arrangement looking fresh and to prevent the spread of decay to other flowers.
- Protect Surfaces: Do not place your flower arrangement directly onto an unprotected surface or furniture. Always use a protective mat or coaster to prevent any potential water damage.

A little care goes a long way in keeping your flowers happy and healthy!
Caring for your vase arrangement
To ensure your vase arrangement stays fresh and vibrant for as long as possible, follow these simple care tips.
- Water Maintenance
- Consistency is Key: Regularly check the water level in your vase and ensure it remains consistent and generous.
- Fresh Water: Fresh lukewarm water is essential for the longevity of your flowers. Top up the vase with water as needed but also change the water completely, ideally every couple of days.
- Re-cut Stems: Each time you change the water, re-cut the stems at an angle to allow better water absorption.

- Avoid Ethylene Gas: Do not place your arrangement near fruit. Ripening fruits release ethylene gas, which can cause flowers to age prematurely.
- Leaf and Petal Care
- Remove Submerged Leaves: Any leaves or petals that fall below the water line should be removed to prevent bacteria build-up.
- Remove Wilted Flowers: Regularly remove any wilted flowers to maintain the arrangement’s appearance and prevent decay from spreading to other flowers.

Indoor plant care tips
Caring for your indoor plants can be both rewarding and therapeutic. Follow these guidelines to help your plants thrive
- Light Requirements: Most indoor foliage and flowering plants flourish in good light but not direct sunlight. Position your plants in a well-lit area where they can enjoy bright, indirect light. Avoid placing them in spots with intense, direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
- Temperature and Environment: Ideally, keep your plants away from draughts, cold, and direct sources of heat. Maintaining a stable environment will help your plants stay healthy and stress-free.
- Watering: As a general guide, most indoor plants require thorough watering once a week. It’s better to allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings rather than topping up with water every day. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so always check the soil moisture before watering.
- Maintenance: Regularly remove any dead flowers and leaves as they occur. This not only keeps your plant looking tidy but also prevents the spread of disease and pests.
- Surface Protection: Do not place your planted basket directly onto an unprotected surface. Always use a protective mat or coaster to prevent potential water damage to your furniture.
- Additional Tips:
- Humidity: Some indoor plants, especially tropical varieties, benefit from higher humidity. Consider misting the leaves occasionally or placing a humidifier nearby.
- Feeding: Feed your plants with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every month during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when plant growth typically slows down.
- Repotting: Check if your plant needs repotting. When your planted basket has finished flowering, it can be time to remove the bulbs to dry out and/or move any plants to a larger pot with fresh soil. Spring bulbs if dried, can be replanted in the autumn ready for next the next flowering season.

Orchid plant care tips
Orchids are beautiful plants that can add a touch of elegance to any space. Many people can struggle to keep orchids, normally by giving them too much attention! We have listed below some care tips, follow these and hopefully you’ll manage to keep your orchid healthy and blooming for longer.
- Light Requirements: Orchids thrive in bright, indirect light. Place your orchid near a window with filtered sunlight, such as a north or east-facing window. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Orchids do not do well in dark, low lit rooms.
- Temperature and Humidity: Orchids prefer a warm, humid environment. Maintain daytime temperatures between 70-80°F (21-27°C) and nighttime temperatures between 60-70°F (16-21°C). A kitchen or bathroom are ideal rooms for Orchids.
- Watering: Water your orchid thoroughly but infrequently. Typically, watering once a week is sufficient. Allow the potting medium to dry out slightly between waterings. Water early in the day to allow excess moisture to evaporate, reducing the risk of root rot. Use room-temperature water and avoid letting water sit in the crown of the plant.
If your orchids’ plastic pot is inside a decorative pot, always remove the plant from the decorative pot when watering it. Water, then allow the plant time to drain, before returning to the decorative pot. Orchids do not like to sit in water, as this can cause the roots to rot.
- Feeding: Fertilize your orchid every two weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced orchid fertilizer. Reduce feeding to once a month during the fall and winter. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for dilution and application.
- Air Circulation: Orchids benefit from good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases. Ensure the room is well-ventilated but avoid placing the orchid in a drafty area.
- Repotting: Repot your orchid every one to two years, preferably after it has finished blooming. Use a specialized orchid potting mix, which typically includes bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss. Choose a pot with good drainage to prevent waterlogging.
- Pruning: After your orchid blooms, cut the flower spike just above the node where the first flower appeared. This may encourage a secondary bloom. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves to maintain the plant’s health and appearance.
- Support: Some orchids may need support to keep their flower spikes upright. Use a stake and soft ties to gently support the spike as it grows.
- Pests and Diseases: Inspect your orchid regularly for signs of pests such as aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Also, be on the lookout for signs of disease, such as black spots or mould, and address these issues quickly.
We hope your orchid brings you much pleasure. If you have any concerns, please contact us within 24 hours of receipt.
